Brush up on Your Brushes
How often should you clean your makeup brushes?
Washing your makeup brushes regularly helps prevent bacterial growth. As our brushes come into contact with our making, skin, and even dirt, it grows bacteria. Over time, this bacteria leads to breakouts and skin irritations or infections. A clean brush reduces bacteria exposure to your face for a healthy and smoother application. You also get a better application with a clean brush as it minimizes any product mixture. Residue from old products can mix with new ones, altering their colors and textures.
Wash your brushes like you'd wash your hair: lather, rinse, repeat. For your monthly deep clean, you will soap your brushes, run them under water, and continue this process until they look makeup and suds-free. Squeeze out the access water, reshape the bristles, and leave them out to dry. Simply use a makeup brush spray cleaner for your weekly or daily washes and wipe the brush on a paper towel. How often you need to wash your brushes may vary, but you can use this rough guide for a reference.
Wash your brushes daily if you use them for liquid foundation or cream products.
Wash your brushes once a week if you use them for powder products.
Wash your brushes every 2-3 weeks if you constantly rotate which brushes you use.
And, if all else fails, stick with a monthly deep clean.
